Why vote music?

Our music tells us who we are.

There is no other place in the world like NSW.

With a history going back thousands of years, we need the sounds of NSW - our voices, our songs - to tell our stories at home, and to the world.

We can bring music in from other places to entertain us, but then we’ll only ever know what other places sound like.

Music brings us together.

Music has an unparalleled ability to draw people out of their homes and into the world. This magnetic power transforms dull cities into vibrant metropolises, and sleepy towns into cultural destinations.

It brings us closer to those around us, builds communities and gives us a sense of belonging. Research shows that listening to, creating and participating in music is good for our health and well-being.

Music always performs.

After a decade of challenges, music in NSW is not flourishing as it should

We have fewer places for live music, and creative professionals and music businesses are moving interstate. A generation of young talent is missing out on opportunities and regional music communities aren’t supported to thrive.

This spells out a worrying future for music in NSW.

Our music is at risk.

Music is the fix.

It’s time for music to make the cities and towns across NSW thrive.

It’s time to bring people together, out of their homes and into a world of lively streets, packed venues and sold-out tours.

It’s time for more local music on TV, in films and on radio.

It’s time for the next generation of talent to take the world by storm.

On March 25, Vote Music

There’s a state election on the horizon. Right now, politicians are drafting policies and commitments, so it’s time to speak up.

After extensive consultation with music workers and organisations across the state, we’ve got three requests.

We’re asking for:

The establishment of a Contemporary Music Office in the NSW Government to spearhead a 10-year Contemporary Music Strategy.

1. Leadership

2. Investment

Significant government investment in skills, industry and audience development initiatives.

3. Infrastructure

Protecting and building music infrastructure to promote vibrant community spaces and flourishing cultural destinations.
